Professional Statement
There is no one-size-fits-all answer in medicine. That is why when I meet with a patient to discuss their neurological issues and treatment, I spend a fair amount of time reviewing and explaining to them what is causing their symptoms. I want to help them to make the best, most educated decision about their care.
Joining the NorthBay Health neuroscience team affords me great opportunities to continue those connections with patients. Coming to NorthBay feels a bit like coming home for me. Though I grew up in New Jersey, after earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from Princeton, I came to California and earned my Ph. D. and Medical Doctorate at the University of California, Davis. After completing my neurosurgical residency in San Francisco, I was recruited to be Chief of Neurosurgery in Massachusetts. I am thrilled to be back in California and working with the neurosurgery team at NorthBay.
As a neurosurgeon for more than two decades, I remain fascinated with treatment of brain and spinal issues. It is an area of medicine where we can make dramatic changes in people's lives. An example: A young man was driving home from a factory where he worked in Massachusetts on motorbike. A deer ran into the road and he swerved and hit a tree. He was brought in by helicopter, minutes from death and rushed to the operating room. He walked out days later to his wife and children. As a doctor, that kind of result is very satisfying.
At NorthBay, much of my focus is on brain tumors and I am working with oncologists on treatments. I will also work on spinal cases and am very happy to be part of creating a healthy spine clinic where we help not only treat problems surgically but help with lifestyle changes to address patients' back issues.
When I am not working, I spend a lot of my time focused on my 3 grandsons, who are the love of my life! I also enjoy weaving and am involved in several business opportunities with my eldest son.
