Professional Statement
Long ago I discovered my passion for helping people feel better. I can trace that passion to my earliest childhood memories. I loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian. I credit my earliest understanding of empathy to my German Shepard, Lisa. We took care of one another, and I would watch her carefully to understand her needs. I fed and brushed her regularly, and toward the end of her life, dressed her wounds. This experience inspired me to eventually study medicine.
As I grew older, I also found great satisfaction in helping people feel better. There was a greater depth in being able to talk to someone to gain a deeper understanding of how an illness affected them physically and emotionally. This is my passion now – learning about a person’s health struggles and then using a strong foundation of knowledge and the best technology to achieve positive results.
Today, I’m proud to say I’m both a pulmonologist and critical care specialist. My time is divided between serving as a pulmonary – or lung – specialist in the office and taking care of people in the Intensive Care Unit. I’m attracted to critical care because it’s a highly technical and kinetic field, but one that requires kindness, empathy, and thoughtfulness.
As a pulmonologist, I treat numerous conditions, including Pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer, COPD, asthma, and Interstitial Lung Disease. My patients, who are 18 years or older, are far more than a collection of symptoms and diagnoses to me. I always seek to learn details of their lives so I might develop a more complete picture of the person. This approach sometimes enables me to think out-of-the-box and find solutions where none appeared before. My colleagues describe me as friendly, approachable, and someone who isn’t afraid to think out-of-the-box. I’m detail oriented and will take time to explain things thoroughly.
My greatest joy during a workday comes whenever I collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and we accomplish good results for a patient. After all, this is what we are all ultimately working toward.
So, my care philosophy is basic: Work hard and care. Excellence should be the standard.
In my spare time, I love to read. I’m constantly reading, and when I’m not reading, I’m usually listening to podcasts or audiobooks or sampling various types of music.
