Working with people to build lasting and trusting relationships has been the best part of medicine in my experience.
I chose to pursue a career in gastroenterology and hepatology (treating conditions of the digestive system and liver) because the need in this area is so great. There are tremendous numbers of folks who are struggling with GI complaints and it's an honor to take part in the relief of suffering in any way.
Gastroenterology is also very interventional in nature with plenty of opportunities to "fix things," from gastrointestinal bleeding, to out of control colitis. The future of the gastroenterology field will be filled with opportunities to intervene and make a difference. I treat adults with conditions such as GERD (acid reflux), Dysphagia (problems swallowing), Colorectal cancer screening, and anyone with bowel habit changes including irritable or inflammatory bowel disease.
I consider myself a good listener and I strive to stay current with medical literature. I am not afraid to use and apply technology in the treatment of GI disease. In fact, I did my undergraduate work in electrical engineering at Kansas State University before entering the United States Air Force as a biomedical engineer working in the formerly known Armstrong Laboratory Human Effectiveness Directorate (now Air Force Research Lab).
Unraveling complex problems and applying effective treatment strategies can provide tremendous satisfaction for both the patient and clinician alike. This is why I strive to provide the most personalized, data-driven, current and effective gastrointestinal care for each of my patients.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing the guitar, bike riding, reading and traveling with my wife and our four children.
