About Jennifer Yu

Professional Statement

Dr. Jennifer Yu became interested in medicine at a young age because she was curious about how the human body works. Over time, that curiosity grew into a desire to help people heal, manage pain, and stay healthy. She found anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine to be a great fit because they combine hands-on care, modern technology, and personalized treatment. The field is always changing, and new treatments give hope to people living with chronic pain.

Dr. Yu cares for adults with many types of pain, especially pain in the spine, joints and nerves. Common conditions she treats include spinal stenosis, sciatica, herniated discs, arthritis and long-term back or neck pain. Her goal is to help patients move more easily, feel better, and enjoy a better quality of life.

She earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. This training prepared her to care for people with complex pain conditions. Dr. Yu later worked as an anesthesiologist and pain specialist at Mass General Brigham Salem Hospital and North Shore Physicians Group. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine, with specialized training in minimally invasive, advanced spine procedures and neuromodulation.

Dr. Yu understands that pain affects everyone differently, and many patients come to her feeling frustrated or unheard. During visits, patients can expect a careful exam and a treatment plan made just for them. Plans may include image-guided injections, physical therapy, medications, lifestyle changes, or advanced spine procedures. She takes time to listen, understand each person’s goals, and explain options clearly. Working together helps patients feel informed and confident about their care.

Her care philosophy centers on treating pain with kindness, teamwork and skill. By caring for the whole person and using proven treatments, she helps patients regain strength and independence.

For Dr. Yu, the most rewarding part of her work is hearing how treatment allows patients to return to the activities and people they love—whether that means traveling, staying active, spending time with family, or simply moving comfortably again.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Yu enjoys hiking, traveling with family and friends, trying new foods, and reading. She speaks English and conversational Mandarin.
