Professional Statement
From a young age, Dr. Carmen Solano was drawn to health and wellness. At 13, she watched her brother experience a severe asthma attack and decided to become a physician to make a difference in people's lives during medical emergencies. Over time, she came to appreciate the value of prevention and chronic disease management in helping people live longer, healthier lives.
Dr. Solano practices family medicine and treats patients aged 12 and up. Choosing family medicine was an easy decision after she fell in love with the field's variety and continuity of care during medical school rotations. She treats a wide range of acute and chronic conditions and also has specialized training in functional medicine, which helps her support patients with more complex or difficult health concerns including diabetes, hypertension and other long-term conditions. She also has a special clinical interest in women's health, with a focus on hormone balance and wellness throughout all stages of life.
Dr. Solano earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center and completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Oklahoma. Since 2003, she has worked in various health systems and care clinics across New Mexico in both solo and team practice settings. She is board certified in family medicine and is a certified functional medicine practitioner. She is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Patients visiting Dr. Solano can expect that every appointment will be tailored to their needs. Some visits focus on diagnosing and treating medical concerns, while others center on education, prevention or long-term health planning. Compassion and listening are at the heart of her care, and she sees the doctor-patient relationship as a true partnership. She believes patients know their bodies and goals better than anyone, and that her role is to offer guidance, support and medical expertise along the way. Patients often appreciate her thoughtful approach and her commitment to treating them as whole individuals. One of the most rewarding parts of her work is helping patients with complex medical issues reach meaningful breakthroughs.
Outside of work, Dr. Solano continues to invest in her own learning through reading, research and webinars. She believes that when patients understand their options, they can make confident decisions that reflect their values and goals. She also enjoys spending time with family and exploring her new community.
